Burn My Eyes 25th Anniversary Tour presented by Mind Over Matter, Planet TT Bank Austria Halle at Gasometer Vienna, Austria 20191016
It was in 2007, when a band reached the top of every (Metal) charts ranking with their record “The Blackening”. During summer, they destroyed festivals like the Rock im Park alongside with Slayer, Stone Sour, Type O Negative, Korn and The White Stripes. And later that year, they played the Black Crusade Tour with Trivium, Dragonforce, Arch Enemy and Shadows Fall.
Back then, some complained that a headliner set of about an hour is too short. Machine Head already corrected it big time with their “An Evening with”-Tour. And now, like Dog Eat Dog, they celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut. Coming from the Zenith in Munich, they stop in Vienna, before proceeding to the B90 in Gdansk.
Ozzy is to hear, before the band attacks with “Imperium“. With “Beautiful Mourning” soon they drop the first one from “The Blackening”, later followed by the Dimebag Darrell tribute “Aesthetics Of Hate” and as closer of the first set “Halo”. “The Burning Red” is represented by “The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears” and “From This Day”, and as approved on “Hellalive” the live monster “Bulldozer” from “Supercharger”.
More younger highlights are the drum-driven “Locust”, the live debut of “Do Or Die” (that lead to a weird beef with Dope, who played at the SIMMCity with Wednesday 13 and Static-X the day before) and the massive “I Am Hell”. Before “Darkness Within”, Robb Flynn tells a story that he ones smashed his guitar on the head of a fan for stealing his hat in Salzburg, and now they finally met again.
He goes on that music keeps him sane and that he understands the people inside this walls, but not the people outside who build walls! Unfortunately the enthusiasm of the audience is low, hopefully because they weren’t listening. For the other the set includes “Is There Anybody Out There?”, before the band makes a quick ten minutes break to come back with former members Logan Mader and Chris Kontos.
To celebrate, they play “Burn My Eyes” in its full. This monumental band start included bangers like “Davidian”, “None But My Own” and “I’m Your God Now”. The two new fellows deliver a show full of energy like back at Dynamo 1995. It is a bit a pity, that Adam Duce left, just like Phil Demmel went back to Vio-Lence and Dave McClain to Sacred Reich.
But Bassist Jared MacEachern adds a nice Death Metal voice and Robb sovereignly knows how to take his fans. A cover medley with “The Trooper” and “Raining Blood” amongst others creates time to come down a little before the final, that goes down with fire after three and a half hours of great Metal!
