A Farewell In Community
Svalbard, Nàire
Final European Tour & Final Austria Performance presented by Generation Noir at Arena Wien – Kleine Halle, Austria 20260505
It is a week for atmospheric music in Vienna with likes of Disillusion, Great Rift or Nightstalker and OON presented by RTOS. At the weekend, the Arena celebrates 50 years since the occupation, documented on TV. And earlier, on Tuesday, Generation Noir brings the Final European Tour of a Metal and Post-Hardcore milestone to the small hall.
As local support, Nàire travel from Linz, to start with their nihilistic Post-Metal/Sludge. They summon up images of “The Age of Man”, run down and destructed. Screams echo to the blast beats, hair are flying on and in front of the stage. “Kings” must die and will be buried in the abyss of this sound, dig in the ashes of their realms.
The smoke blurs the light, as it lies on the water in South West England. There, where Pulteney and Clifton Suspension Bridge cross river Avon, that leads to the Bristol Channel like the Severn, Svalbard come from. In fifteen years of existence, they visited the city several times, like with Victims, Cult Of Luna, Enslaved or with Alcest.
Not too long ago, they released their single “If We Could Still Be Saved”. Tonight, the whole hall is here “To Wilt Beneath The Weight” together. “Defiance” talks about holding on to dreams, while “Faking It” deals with depression. Time to “Throw Your Heart Away” cause we have “The Damage Done”.
Finally the “Eternal Spirits” of all event participants melt together, letting go one struggles and everyday grind. So before calling it a day, Svalbard serve “Grayscale” from “Discography 2012-2014”. And there are side projects Noctule and Afraid To Die for fans to follow.
Svalbard continue for some more shows in Europe, and Generation Noir has several evening planned as well with names like Fotocrime, Powerplant, Denuit, Vioflesh and many more..
